Reporting directly to the Communication Director, the Media Relations and Communications Specialist will oversee a media relations plan and assist in the execution of a strategic communications plan designed to build brand awareness and grow the understanding of Ci3's mission, research, and interventions. This person will work to place print articles and broadcast segments on Ci3 in local, national, and international news outlets. They will also work closely with the Communications Director to increase brand recognition, drive traffic to the organization website, and ensure promotional efforts are aligned with the organization's overall goals and strategy. Additionally, the communications specialist will assist in the building and execution of a robust public relations plan designed to reinforce the Ci3 brand as a leader in the industry. The specialist will strategically liaise with Ci3 labs for consistent and relevant messages both inside and outside the organization.Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Building relationships with the media, including strengthening existing relationships and developing new relationshipsDeveloping and executing the media strategy for upcoming and current CI3 projects Developing, pitching, and placing stories and byline articles featuring Ci3 and its experts.Maintaining an appropriate media contact lists and continuously expanding these lists with new contacts and relationshipsResearch, write, and disseminate press releases to the news media and develop/track appropriate editorial calendarAssist in website content development and site management (using the WordPress content management system) and other Ci3 micro-sites Assist with managing Ci3's mail listserve (Via MailChimp) and maintaining the organization's supporter databaseAssist with scheduling social media calendar (Via Hootsuite), including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram accountsAssisting in the design of print collateral, including brochures, short publications, and event invitations and signage, etc.Integrating/cross-promoting all of Ci3 communications with UChicago and external stakeholdersSupporting basic media relations, including writing press releases and statements, maintaining media lists, and collecting media mentions
