The Director of Communications is part of the Advancement Office and is responsible for marketing and communicating the mission of St. George’s to internal and external audiences and overseeing all alumni relations. This is a full-time position that reports directly to the Director of Advancement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for the developing and monitoring overall marketing and communications plan
Manage all content for the external school website and internal secure portals, including up to date written content, news stories, photography, graphics, videos, layout and basic HTML coding.
Manage the school Facebook page and other social media efforts.
Coordinate all school advertising. Secure photography and oversee creative and graphic design. May occasionally need to create and design flyers, ads, postcards, etc.
Write and distribute timely press releases for school news and events, such as Open House tours, the Soiree, Parents Group and Dads Club activities, Student Council activities, academic awards and honors, sports activities and achievements, etc.
Coordinate the creation of printed materials, signage, videos, slideshows and other marketing and communication materials.
Write and design parental and alumni email correspondence to communicate school news.
Serve as one of the school photographers/videographers to document and publicize school activities and maintain and update school photography database and archives. Edit photos using Photoshop.
Train, educate and serve as a resource for faculty and staff on PR, marketing and communication efforts.
Manage alumni database and alumni outreach, including coordinating annual alumni events.
Coordinate with Parents Group and Dads Club officers to provide support for fundraising events and school-wide public relations activities.
Collaborate with the Advancement Team and the Board of Trustees Marketing Committee on efforts to communicate the school’s message both internally and externally.
Collaborate with the Director of Advancement to produce materials and communicate messages for fundraising efforts.
Assist with the production of the annual school magazine Accolade, including writing, editing and photography.
Staff/attend special events on week nights and weekends.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Advancement or Head of School.
Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in marketing or communications
5 years of experience in marketing/communications/public relations. Experience in an independent school environment is preferred.
Exceptional organizational and communication skills
Demonstrated ability to pay close attention to details and to efficiently manage several assignments and tasks simultaneously
Ability to multi-task, to be proactive and to be a team player
Strong writing and editing skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Apps
Knowledge of website content management systems and basic HTML coding skills
Knowledge of Facebook and other social media applications
Knowledge of graphics software such as Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator, and video editing software
Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge 7 or data entry software
Experience with photography
