Collaborate with External Affairs staff members to write promotional copy for various target audiences in a full range of marketing materials, including publications, direct mail, email campaigns, and social media posts. Serve as campus authority on Associated Press (AP) style and Kent State's Guide to University Style in support of university marketing strategies. Strengthen and enhance relationships with local media representatives to promote the image of Kent State Stark Campus. Work with faculty and staff to develop media stories for placement. Reports to Director, External Affairs/Business & Community Relations – Stark.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:
Distribute news releases; respond to news media questions; coordinate campus experts and sources; work closely with University Marketing and Communications (UCM) department.
Research, write, and revise various types of promotional writing projects.
Serve as co-editor and co-writer of Encompass, Stark Campus' bi-annual campus magazine.
Proofread and edit Stark Campus marketing communications.
Apply appropriate brand standards and compliance guidelines to all writing projects.
Write speeches and/or talking points for Stark Campus Dean and other members of Stark Campus' senior leadership team.
Serve as liaison for internal and external communications flow; serve as Stark Campus spokesperson as needed.
Prepare and maintain records of local media coverage of the university and university events.
Supervise student employees as assigned.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in creative writing, journalism, broadcasting, English, or relevant field. Five years of experience in public relations, media relations, communications, or related field.
