The division of Student and Enrollment Services has an outstanding opportunity for a SENIOR ADMISSIONS ADVISOR for Campus Visitation. This position supports the enrollment efforts of the UW Tacoma by providing admissions information to prospective students and their families, as well as by overseeing campus visitation and events and the supervision of the campus ambassadors. This position hires, trains, schedules, and directs the work of student employees who help respond to phone calls, email inquiries, and drop-in visitors; and provide campus tours. This position ensures that Admissions front line staff are knowledgeable and provide outstanding customer service. This position understands the importance of and implementation of campus visitation best practices.
On-Campus Admissions Advising, Visitation & Events Oversee and coordinate all admissions sponsored campus visitation events. This will include program creation, proper communication with guests, the office and campus, maintenance of the registration process, staffing, room reservations, and event planning.
Oversee and coordinate all daily and special/group tour requests for prospective students, families and other interested parties. This will include proper communication with guests, the office and campus; maintenance of the registration process; ensuring appropriate staffing and room reservations; creating special agendas and materials as appropriate; and facilitating campus collaboration.
Act as an admissions advisor for on-campus appointments and presentations as needed. Counsel prospective students, families and counselors about UW Tacoma admissions policies and procedures and provide information about educational opportunities. Provide general information regarding financial aid programs, process, timelines, and student eligibility; refer students to appropriate campus offices and services, as appropriate. Support the efforts of our Admissions Advisors with coverage of specific off-campus visits and/or college fairs. Review applications through our holistic review process.
Coordination and supervision of Campus Ambassadors Utilize student development theory to provide direct supervision to the campus ambassadors and tour guides. Hire, train, assign and review work; develop performance goals and assess performance. Provide direction and clarification and respond to questions and inquiries. Assign work schedules to ensure proper coverage of the front desk, campus tours, campus visitation events and special requests. Work collaboratively with Admissions Leadership to assure on-campus support of the established recruitment plan and advisor support of on-campus activities.
Customer Service & Hospitality Establish standards, train student employees and maintain and ensure exemplary customer service for all visitors. Stay up-to-date on in-office and campus-wide policies and news, and ensure student employees are updated as appropriate. As a senior advisor, ensure that student employees and other admissions advisors are prepared to assist each guest (via phone calls, in-person, and email) with success and with the utmost respect
Assessment Maintain statistics of daily visitors and event participants. Compile information into monthly, quarterly and annual reports. Responsible for assessment efforts and for reviewing program evaluations. Suggest and implement any changes necessary as a result of program assessments and evaluations.
Institutional Collaboration and Participation Collaborate and maintain relationships with academic programs. Work collectively with other units and offices at UW Tacoma, including UW Seattle and UW Bothell units, as appropriate, to support student services, enrollment and retention at the University. Participate in trainings, meetings, committees and other duties as assigned to support the Office of Admissions and Division of Student and Enrollment Services.
Bachelor's degree in Business, Communications, the Social Sciences or related field.
Minimum three years of experience working or volunteering in an admissions or student services office in a higher education setting.
Demonstrated experience event planning.
Demonstrated experience interacting with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and economic backgrounds.
Excellent public speaking, writing, listening and customer service skills.
Ability to work on multiple tasks.
Computer skills in Word, Excel and a working knowledge of Access databases.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Evidence of a leadership position held as a campus ambassador, orientation leader, and/or tour guide during one's undergraduate experience.
Experience supervising undergraduate college students.
General understanding of student development theory.
Experience recruiting, advising or mentoring underrepresented, undergraduate transfer and/or prospective first-year student populations in a university or college setting.
A Master's Degree in higher education, student development or related field.
Education with a focus in event planning.
Experience with social media communication in a professional setting.
