The Russ College of Engineering and Technology Office of the Dean at Ohio University invites applications for the full-time, benefits eligible position of Associate Director of Communications.
The Associate Director works directly with the Senior Director and communications team to develop and distribute high-quality, consistent, and timely communications for the Russ College that support the college’s recruiting, marketing, fund-raising, and alumni engagement goals. This includes, but is not limited to: serving as editor for the college's weekly e-newsletter and associate editor of the college's annual alumni publication Ingenuity Magazine; coordinating, writing and editing other publications, news stories, social media content, speeches, and other pieces; editing and coordinating assets for internal and external publications; and collaborating with the Senior Director to write, edit, and manage website content. He/she manages the communications team PACE student and graduate assistant, and may assist with management of any freelancers hired. He/she also serves on behalf of or in the place of the Senior Director when so appointed. Primary responsibilities include: 1. Write and edit a variety of content, ensuring accuracy, quality, and compliance with the University's brand standards and the mission of the Russ College of Engineering and Technology, for newsletters, news articles, press releases, social media, speeches, web pages, board meetings, brochures, presentations, and other printed and electronic pieces for both internal and external audiences. Assure consistency and precision regarding grammar, punctuation, syntax, and acceptable institutional style and evaluation of factual accuracy and consistency of information – chronology of events, overall consistency of subject matter, verification of facts, rearrangement or deletion of material, analysis of data, and evaluation of documentation as to accuracy and thoroughness. Edit content provided by the Senior Director of Communications before publication. Collaborate with Senior Director to provide final edit and quality assurance for all communication, providing such content to communications team members for inclusion in their work. Research audience demographics to effectively target priority markets and influence engagement, and work with communications team to strategically disseminate content. 2. Create and edit content for the Russ College website, including university messages and branding, and overall technical functionality. 3. Manage the Russ College’s weekly e-newsletter, including development of story budgets in collaboration with senior director, suggesting ideas, assigning articles, handling problems, and keeping staff on schedule. 4. Create, write, and execute social media strategies and campaigns that align with branding and messaging efforts. Develop calendar, and write and edit posts, for a variety of highly-visible social media outlets.
Bachelor’s degree in communications, writing, marketing, or related field.
At least three years of related experience.
At least one year of management experience.
Master’s degree in communications, writing, marketing, business, or related field.
