Job Description:The primary purpose of this position is to oversee and direct web-based communication and to develop, edit, coordinate and publish content for the ECU home page and web site, as well as build and implement the university's primary and official social media presence. This position will serve as editor of ecu.edu, the university home page, and direct website strategy and evolution and work. It will, at the direction of the News Services Director and with the Creative Services director and with other staff, develop elements such as multimedia web presentations, video features and other content types. The position will work closely with the executive director of communication, public affairs and marketing chief of communications and director of News Services to provide editorial support and direction to university leadership, including coordinating special web projects, media relations and strategic communication. The Public Comm. Specialist will act in an independent manner with minimal direct supervision and is expected to exercise sound independent professional judgment in decision making. The duties entail: As a senior member of the ECU News Services team, providing strategic content oversight and support for ECU's public web presence, including managing, editing, posting and publishing timely, relevant and accurate content for ecu.edu, ECU's home page, and the ECU News Services home page. This includes posting information to web pages 45 on demand, when needed at night and on weekends, promoting consistent brand messaging throughout the ECU web presence that is consistent with overall university communications strategies and supporting integration of those messages on web pages managed by other departments. This also includes acting as a senior member of the media relations team by performing strategic media relations duties as needed and working with senior university leadership and others. Managing ECU's social media presence through multiple platforms (e g., Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, etc.) and overseeing the team responsible for that presence is another critical part of the role. This includes direct management of a social media community manager and regular creative use of digital spaces in presenting ECU news and updates. Crisis communication. Acting as lead level operator for ECU Alert system when needed, including nights and weekends, acting as operator for ECU Lite web page in university emergencies overseeing social media response in emergencies in addition to helping craft and distribute distributing news releases to media during emergencies. Researching and responding to media inquiries and performing media relations duties as needed. Preparing and distributing news releases for university departments as needed. Managing oversight of Localist, the hosted university calendar.
Miniumum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. Preferred Education and Experience: 3-5 years of experience with new/social media a university/higher education setting is preferred. Special Instructions to the Applicant: This position is subject to the Career Banding Salary Administration Plan. If candidates are not identified at the Advanced level, management may consider candidates at a lower competency level. Pay will be commensurate with applicant's competencies as well as budget, equity, and market considerations. Salary Grade Equivalent: 73 (for reduction-in-force priority purposes only)
