Calvin College is seeking a writer and editor of digital media. This position is responsible for digital communications that attract prospective students and promote public understanding and awareness of the mission and purpose of Calvin College through the written word, social media, lead generation, advertising and inbound marketing. Head-turning writing skills are a must for both short form digital advertising and for long form journalistic articles.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Work with the director of communications and brand steward to develop and promote Calvin’s brand, including the brand platform, storyline training, messaging frameworks, audience personas, and identity guidelines.
Develop and execute targeted marketing and messaging strategies to grow the Calvin brand. Includes providing direction, project management and copy for collateral, advertising, email campaigns and other promotional pieces.
Work with the enrollment marketing team to develop and execute lead generation messaging and inbound marketing strategies to increase enrollment.
Provide writing support to the President’s office, News and Stories team, SPARK and VERGEmagazines and other projects as assigned.
Work with team members to coordinate cross-divisional advertising, including content creation, placement and evaluation.
Serve as the college’s social media manager with responsibilities which include:
developing and providing overall direction to social media resources across the college;
developing an effective, on-going social media plan/strategy across all channels of social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and more) and continually update that plan/strategy and related activity based on emerging trends and opportunities;
writing copy, producing content, and repurposing materials optimized for the web consistent with the messaging platform;
working with the campus videographer and digital marketing coordinator to develop and direct the college’s YouTube strategy;
adopting and implementing plans and procedures to meet compliance and legal requirements as they relate to social media
Provide support to the Web team, as a content strategist, writer and editor. Also serve on other cross-divisional promotional teams, project teams, etc., as assigned.
Coordinate with campus colleagues, current students, stakeholders and outside vendors to ensure that college messaging is authentic, consistent, relevant and functional across all media.
Supervises the student social media team and other student workers as assigned.
Writing: Words make worlds. Calvin has a story that is compelling. This position requires a wordsmith that can develop original concepts in counter-intuitive and unexpected ways to reach into and stir people’s hearts. This includes short form advertising copy and long form journalistic articles. It also requires the ability to translate academic language into language that is accessible for all audiences.
Digital Marketing: This position requires a solid understanding of digital marketing, brand strategy, public relations, analytics, SEO, SEM, and social media platforms and monitoring tools.
a Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university
3-5 years of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Previous related experience in writing, editing and proofreading required.
