The News Producer creates, edits and formats content for Seattle Times digital products with an emphasis on audience engagement and seeking innovative ways to tell and promote stories. This person sits in the center of the newsroom and curates the seattletimes.com website in real time, posting to our social media accounts, sending news alerts, keeping an eye on analytics and on what our audiences are talking about (not just on our site), and whatever else needs doing. Successful candidates will possess above-average judgment and sensitivity with news stories, evaluating stories with nimbleness, diplomacy, and proving this with strong communication skills.
Triage news stories for importance according to impact on audience base
Prioritize story development efforts and write compelling content
Act as core member of digital audience team
Maintain crucial connections with existing readers while growing readership
Provide accurate and timely coverage updates during breaking news.
Produce quality news content according to The Seattle Times’ journalistic values
Minimum two years’ professional experience in a related position, such as Producer, Digital Producer, Engagement Producer or Editor, Content Manager, or related role.
Bachelor’s degree in journalism/communication or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Previous professional experience working in digital news media.
Familiarity with tools for web publishing, social media and analytics.
Native-level fluency with the web, social-media savvy and a deep understanding of how people consume information on multiple devices and platforms.
Well-versed in AP style, news judgment and journalistic ethics.
