Cultivate Learning has an outstanding opportunity for a Communications Specialist.
The Communications Specialist will be independently responsible for the development and implementation of Cultivate Learning's external and internal communication strategy. This position will independently research and produce mission driven content for a variety of communications, including newsletters, website, promotional materials, presentations, and printed publications. This position will also integrate Cultivate Learning's brand identity and voice to tell our story and convey key messages quickly, accurately and strategically to diverse audiences including the Department of Early Learning, Higher Education Community, funders, Institutional Partners, educators and coaches.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Communication & Information Management (70%)
Work with all Cultivate Learning and EarlyEdU units to develop an integrated communication strategy that reflects Center wide projects and priorities.
Understand the mission, vision, and programming of the Center and align all messaging with Cultivate Learning's brand strategy and identity.
Develop and execute both short and long term communication plans, manage timelines and ensure consistency in brand identity and voice across the Center.
Identify key audiences and develop engaging communication materials that are appropriate for reaching key audiences.
Manage communication dissemination plans to all Cultivate Learning and EarlyEdU audiences.
Responsible for the creation and production of written and online communications for all Center units.
Independently produce written content for newsletters, events, presentations, press releases, speaking points, reports to funders, and related communications.
Generate fresh website content including homepage stories, general information, news, and photo selections.
Collaborate with the PI, Directors, and staff to write and publish news stories and profiles featuring the work of faculty and the Center.
Coordinate efforts with the Center's Design, Media and Content Development teams to create newsletter templates, promotional videos, feature stories, and other multimedia communications.
Research and recommend opportunities and events for presenting and promoting Center activities and messaging.
Lead communication efforts for annual Cultivate Learning and EarlyEdU Institutes.
Develop integrated social media strategies for individual projects and products, and the Center as a whole.
Articulate and promote Center activities and achievements through external communication channels including state and national partner institutions, EarlyEdU Alliance member institutions, UW College of Education, and University of Washington marketing and communication units.
Liaison with College of Education marketing and communication unit.
Routinely evaluate and revise overall communication strategies based on Center priorities.
Regularly evaluate and revise printed and online forms, website pages, applications, and promotional communications to assure materials are up to date, clear, accurate, and cohesive.
Use web analytics and audience feedback to track and measure our impact and influence.
Handle multiple projects and exercise good judgment in an organized and professional manner, in a fast paced, dynamic and deadline driven environment.
Management of internal departmental communications (30%)
Provide resources and advise staff regarding content for websites, printed materials, university resources, and department standards.
Design and deliver communication materials via print and web for internal communication, external reporting, alliance members, stakeholders, funders and community partners.
Develop communications for the PI and Directors including Power Point presentations, letters, announcements and other as needed.
Work on other projects as assigned.
Bachelor's Degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing or related field, and 2 years of experience in Communications and Information dissemination, writing and/or web development or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience developing comprehensive communication plans and strategies.
Experience in multimedia storytelling, newsletter writing, and web content development.
High comfort level interacting with experts, faculty, community members, funders, policymakers, and early childcare professionals.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Excellent follow up and attention to detail.
Excellent organization and project management skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Master's Degree in a related field.
Experience with web-management software (Drupal and WordPress in particular).
Experience with online marketing platforms such as Convio, Marketo, or other.
Experience developing communications in educational settings.
Experience translating research findings into coherent content that is easily understood by the general public.
Demonstrated interest in early learning, adult learning, or higher education.
Basic design experience.
