Assists in planning, organizing, and implementing events and functions, which may include exhibitions, the Longenecker Artist in Residency program, symposiums, conferences, program events, banquets, and VIP tours. May independently manage small, non-complex events. Coordinate all department events, including seminars, exhibitions, workshops, conferences, alumni events and community engagement. The position designs and develops print and electronic promotional materials for department events, including graduate and undergraduate exhibitions, and serves as editor of the department's weekly events newsletter and calendar. Responsible for planning and arranging for the production and distribution of brochures, bulletins, and special publications used to publicize and promote courses and special programs unique to an academic visual arts department, including news bulletins, postcards, production programs, flyers and posters. Develop and maintain mailing lists and carries out the directmail program. Responsible for archiving department events, and maintaining monthly press archive. Facilitate student program promotion and events objectives. Update department website.
Occasional overtime evenings and weekends may be required.
Experience with event planning and production and public relations.
Knowledge of basic web development and demonstrated ability to edit and maintain websites.
Demonstrated experience and working knowledge of contemporary art practices. Ability and knowledge to talk about art from an informed background.
Experience in successful creation and utilization of social media outlets.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, and attention to detail. Ability to speak effectively in public, to present information clearly and concisely and to work effectively with diverse individuals and groups. Excellent proofreading skills.
Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, Publisher, Visio, Vimeo, etc. Demonstrated knowledge and skill in use of word processing, spreadsheet, presentation applications, and calendaring.
Good working knowledge of applicable publishing software applications, databases for desktop publishing, direct-mail programs such as ConstantContact, and image storage.
Knowledge of graphic design principles, composition, vendor specifications, and mailing services issues.
Knowledge of a mix of target-audience marketing, electronic marketing and direct-mail techniques combined with identifying and engaging specialized campus and community organizations to assist launching promotional campaigns.
Working organizational skills, including skill in effectively coordinating and organizing multiple details. Excellent organizational abilities appropriate to effective calendar management and student and / or volunteer scheduling.
Working knowledge of higher education,its programs, policies, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.
Good interpersonal communication skills and political acumen, including skill in effectively representing the campus, medical center or other university organization to its publics.
Ability to work in diverse groups, including but not limited to students, staff, faculty, general public, production personnel, technical operators and performing artists.
Ability to work professionally under pressure and under tight deadlines ensuring excellent customer service support.
