Reporting directly to the Oriental Institute Museum's Chief Curator and Deputy Director, the Communications Associate plans, develops, and disseminates information about the Oriental Institute's programs, exhibits, events, and research for the international, national, and local media, as well as for the University of Chicago community and the general public. The assigned duties for this position are accomplished through written communications, presentations, social media, websites, and local news media. The Communications Associate is responsible for the development, execution, and evaluation of the Oriental Institute's marketing, public relations, audience development, and branding strategies. This position is expected to raise the Oriental Institute's visibility, enhance the impact of its activities, and support its mission. Additionally, the Communications Associate is expected to develop strategic communication initiatives as they relate to the Oriental Institute.This position also oversees all aspects of both traditional and interactive communications including design, copy, editorial, websites, social media, and email, and will manage and promote the Oriental Institute's relationship with the media. This includes maximizing the value of the Oriental Institute's brand and ensuring consistent messaging across all media, and working closely with the Chief Curator and Deputy Director and Membership Program Manager to ensure that brand identity supports the Oriental Institute's core mission and overall strategic goals. Key to this position is the ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues on campus and in the city to ensure that the Oriental Institute is linked with tourism and other broad outreach efforts that promote the arts and attract visitors.
