About the Position
As our Graphic Designer, you are responsible for designing promotional and curriculum materials including brochures, posters, flyers, ads, transit, textbooks, catalogs, programs, social media graphics and more. You coordinate with outside vendors on securing ad space and maintain a detailed editorial ad calendar, ensuring that strict deadlines are met. You supervise a team of student graphic designers, mentoring them in design industry practices and managing their workflow. In the position, you are also the team expert on photo practices, including file management and tagging, editing, and meeting photo release requirements by the university. This position reports directly to the Marketing Manager for Extended Education.
As a member of the graphic design team, you will play a critical role in the success of Western's programs through the development of style guides and visual identities, ensuring adherence to university brand guidelines, and producing innovative creative collateral in collaboration with members of the marketing department and colleagues across Western's campus.
Associate's degree in graphic design, fine art or related field, or two years of related experience/education;
Demonstrated proficiency in full Adobe Creative Suite such as InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects;
Demonstrated strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
Ability to prioritize and complete work under strict deadlines;
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team in a fast-paced environment;
Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and decision making with limited time and information;
Experience creating marketing collateral with current graphic design standards;
Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook) and working knowledge of the Macintosh computer operating system;
Demonstrated development and implementation of innovative and creative graphic design projects and ideas
Bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual art or related field or equivalent experience/education;
Familiarity with marketing higher education programs;
Digital portfolio with emphasis on marketing collateral (print and digital).
Expert level experience with the current Adobe Creative Cloud and other software relevant to area of expertise;
Demonstrated experience managing creative processes through external ad agencies, internal teams and freelancers;
Experience in motion graphic design for multi-media;
Familiar with pre-press print production principles, including: color management, file formats, and image conversion requirements for offset lithography, digital printing, and products
Experience in Drupal and WordPress for edits and design
New hires typically start at $3203/month; including an excellent benefits package
This position is covered by a Public School Employees of WWU bargaining union. New employees are required to meet the membership requirements of the current collective bargaining agreement within 30 calendar days of employment.
