Advertised Summary Job Description: Working under the direction of the Managing Editor for Columbia News, the Social and Digital Content Strategist is responsible for ensuring that Columbia University's main social media channels are updated regularly with fresh news, events, images, and other content.
The Social and Digital Content Strategist must have a strong understanding of social metrics/analytics, editing, brand management, and digital strategy to guide what content resonates on various platforms.
Responsibilities Include Developing, planning, and executing the University's social media strategy
Writing, managing, and scheduling social media posts
Staying abreast of web and social media trends in order to optimize the office's approach
Consultant on better practices for social media across the University
Reviewing and assessing content to ensure it adheres to University brand messages and goals
Absorbing and synthesizing new (and often technical) information that should then be presented in plain English
Creating web content, including writing, rewriting, editing, proofreading and fact checking
Collaborating with key contacts across the University to create content
Troubleshooting web and social media issues as needed
General Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience.
Minimum 3-5 years of related experience.
Exceptional understanding of analytics and SEO.
Exceptional interpersonal skills and political discernment
Exceptional communication skills, including excellent writing, editing, and proofreading.
Ability to collaborate across a multi-functional team that includes writers, editors, graphic designers and staff at all levels.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Highly organized with excellent attention to detail.
Functional understanding of web design, video production and streaming, multimedia production, and photo editing.
Experience with content management systems, especially Drupal.
