Position Description and Duties: Harper College seeks a dynamic instructor of journalism for a full-time tenure-track position.
Communication Arts is a growing department of 7 professors who teach speech, communication, mass communication, journalism, and theater. We are building a modern media lab that reflects the changing landscape of journalism. The department offers extracurricular activities that include; WHCM Radio, The Harbinger Newspaper, Speech Team, Debate, and the Harper Ensemble Theater Company.
We are looking for candidates who understand that good journalism is about storytelling. A successful candidate will teach journalism, photojournalism, intro to mass communication, and public relations.
The successful candidate will advise & transform the campus newspaper as well as develop journalism content for our campus radio station. Proficiency in the use of the Adobe Creative Suite, social media platforms, and skill in basic web design is required.

Educational Requirements: A minimum of a Master’s degree in Journalism, Communication, or Mass Communication. An emphasis in journalism is desirable.
Experience Requirements: Post-secondary teaching experience. Experience advising student-run news outlets preferred. Experience using technology in the classroom and alternative classroom delivery modalities.
Experience Desired: Credentials to teach the basic speech course. Curriculum development experience. Recent professional journalism experience.
