As a senior member of the Advancement team, the alumni relations director ensures and improves engagement with alumni by strengthening relationships with the school. Maintaining regular communication, planning and executing on- and off-campus events, and creating and promoting volunteer opportunities are key responsibilities. Collecting biographical information, identifying potential news stories, and sharing accomplishments of alumni is critical, as is identifying alumni donor prospects. The director also works with current students on programs that engage with alumni and prepare students for life as alumni.
Develops a comprehensive alumni relations program to increase alumni engagement with HPA as outlined in the school’s strategic plan
In partnership with the events coordinator, creates the vision for and execute alumni events, including Reunion, periodic local and regional events and gatherings
Develops a plan for reinvigorating and then provide leadership to the Alumni Association in its efforts to recruit, inspire, and support alumni volunteers
In partnership with the Director of the HPA Fund and other advancement colleagues, sets goals, develops strategy for, and - when appropriate - solicits alumni for support of the HPA Fund
In collaboration with the communications specialist, envisions, writes, and produces communications, including the electronic alumni newsletter, invitations to events, features for the Ma Ke Kula and alumni solicitations for the HPA Fund
In collaboration with the communications specialist, develops and implements a strategy for the use of social media for alumni engagement and increased annual giving
Serves as primary liaison to the alumni community, strengthening their relationships with HPA through personal cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
Develops programs that instill a tradition of philanthropy among current students and recent graduates
Develops strategy and execute on the plan to involve alumni in the Campaign
The ideal candidate will have or be:
3+ years of fundraising and/or transferable experience required
Ability to supervise, motivate, and evaluate the work of assigned personnel
Commitment to the mission of HPA and the ability to articulate it
Demonstrated leadership and an ability to manage complex assignments
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated record of establishing and adhering to a timeline
Ability to conceptualize, implement and execute an annual alumni relations plan
Experience working with active, involved volunteer leadership
Proficiency in the use of donor software – Raiser’s Edge preferred
Willing to travel
