Temp to Full Time - Internship
The Citizens Utility Board (CUB), one of Illinois’ premier consumer advocacy groups, has an immediate opening for an intern to help in all facets of the Communications Department. This is an exciting opportunity to get hands-on experience working for a good cause: Fighting electric/gas rate hikes, preventing rip-offs and advocating for a clean energy future.
NOTE: This is a six-month internship up to 35 hours a week at a nonprofit that has been heralded in the media as the “gold standard” of consumer groups. A candidate who excels in this position could be hired for a permanent, full-time position as Communications Assistant.
Work with key staff to coordinate content for an award-winning website, blog, and Facebook and Twitter pages, including developing graphics, taking photos, filming video and writing posts.
Research, write, edit and lay out consumer-friendly blog stories, newsletter stories, fact sheets, helpful guides and other publications as needed;
Maintain library of fact sheets and other CUB materials in both pdf and WordPress formats;
Assist in media campaign planning; including writing and distributing news releases, follow-up calls and pitches to reporters; and maintaining up-to-date list of media contacts.

Proven commitment to public interest work.
Proficient in WordPress.
Experience in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, PhotoShop, and Illustrator).
A degree in Journalism, English or a Communications-related field—either pursuing or completed.
