The Senior Communications Associate will help tell the story of MSK internally and externally while positioning MSK as an institutional leader in education, patient care, and scientific research by creatively sharing what makes MSK unique.
Act as an "internal journalist." Find, develop and write stories about MSK's amazing staff, exciting new initiatives in the clinical, research and administrative realms, and institution-wide events and celebrations that can be shared both internally and externally.
Contribute to the internal digital newsletter, MSKLife, and assist with its quarterly distribution.
Develop and report on MSK advances and activities that highlight institutional priorities and cancer research and treatment advances.
Identify and pursue strategies to enhance employee engagement and communication. Advise internal groups and departments and work with them to develop and execute ideas to meet their communication goals.
Oversee regular compilation and internal sharing of faculty and staff awards and honors.
Work collaboratively and integrate with MSK's external communications team by regularly sharing stories and ideas; developing content; proposing pro-active social media and narrative stories and campaigns.
Work seamlessly with the web, editorial, and media teams.
Inquisitive; a miner of stories with a strong desire to communicate about all aspects of the MSK mission.
A creative and self-starting writer and content creator.
Highly organized and able to work under sometimes tight deadlines to create and support a variety of communications highlighting the MSK mission.
Collaborative and comfortable working with MSK leadership and staff at all levels.
A Bachelor's degree in Science or Journalism
7-10 years of relevant experience
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word; prior experience with web-based software and database management is a plus.
Proficiency in conducting Web research and searches, particularly of the medical or scientific literature.
The ability to summarize highly complex information quickly in clear, accurate, and understandable terms.
