KUOW is the Puget Sound Region's NPR-affiliated public radio service for local, regional, national and international news, information and cultural programming. We serve more than one million users monthly: on-air, online, live streaming and on demand. KUOW operates four broadcast frequencies in Seattle and Western Washington State and produces discrete content services on an additional two HD channels. The mission of KUOW is to create and serve an informed publicone challenged and invigorated by an understanding and appreciation of events, ideas and cultures.
The station is licensed to the University of Washington, which is assisted in its operation and management by Puget Sound Public Radio, a private nonprofit corporation established in 1999 and governed by a community board.

To help in this mission KUOW has an outstanding opportunity for a Social Media Producer.
Reporting to the Social media Strategist, the position works with all KUOW departments to develop and deploy meaningful online engagement with listeners in the Puget Sound region and beyond. Edits and promotes content daily, shaping KUOW's voice in the digital space. Works closely with internal stakeholders to implement initiatives that add value to KUOW content and position KUOW as an authority in online news and storytelling. Helps grow awareness of the KUOW brand among newcomers to our region and underrepresented audiences.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages all KUOW news accounts on social media and serves as promoter for social media use among staff, including providing protocols, best practices and training on effective uses of platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and other online tools that support KUOW content and activities
Maintains and strengthens online communities through consistent and timely comments moderation, customer service and direct engagement.
Develops and executes online outreach to build awareness of KUOW content such as news features, special coverage, initiatives, podcasts, and regular programming.
Supports daily news team in breaking news situations. Creates and edits content for local and national online platforms.
Supports digital team with daily production duties, including writing headlines, social teaser copy, photo editing and some copyediting.
Employs expertise in current social media tools and platforms to ensure each story finds a significant and relevant audience in the social space.
Functions as the point person for user-generated content; provides a cohesive flow of information and ensures posting compliance with KUOW ethics, UW ethics and KUOW editorial standards.
Meets regularly with internal stakeholders to develop and track strategic activities. Reports on activities' effectiveness and evaluates social media activities of interest to the organization.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Provides task-oriented supervision of contractors and interns as necessary.
Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Education, Communications or a related field, and two years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education/experience.
Proficient in PC environment and in Adobe Photoshop or equivalent photo editor; familiar with a variety of Web CMS platforms, basic HTML, and Microsoft Office.
Demonstrated impeccable journalistic integrity and editorial judgment.
Well-informed in the news and issues of the Pacific Northwest and public radio programming.
Proven ability to build and maintain a wide range of partnerships.
High-quality written and verbal communication skills required.
Must be able to work independently and in a team.
Must have the ability to work a varied schedule when required.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
