KUOW is the Puget Sound Region's NPR-affiliated public radio service for local, regional, national and international news, information and cultural programming. We serve more than one million users monthly: on-air, online, live streaming and on demand. KUOW operates four broadcast frequencies in Seattle and Western Washington State and produces discrete content services on an additional two HD channels. The mission of KUOW is to create and serve an informed publicone challenged and invigorated by an understanding and appreciation of events, ideas and cultures.
The station is licensed to the University of Washington, which is assisted in its operation and management by Puget Sound Public Radio, a private nonprofit corporation established in 1999 and governed by a community board.

To help in this mission KUOW has an outstanding opportunity for a Graphic Designer to be responsible for the design, layout and preparation of original artwork for a variety of communication purposes, including print material as well as for web and digital. Exercise independent judgment in the production of complex graphic design materials from concept to final execution.
Plan, coordinate, and organize multiple projects at once. Create print layouts, designs, and execute artwork for KUOW including, but not limited to posters, cover art, brochures, mailers, presentations, and reports. (20%)
Execute and design digital graphics related to the KUOW website, email campaigns, online banner ads, and social media platforms. Select the most appropriate techniques and output available within the project timeline and budget. (20%)
Work in consultation with KUOW membership and development teams to produce print and digital collateral designed to increase membership and generate new revenues. (20%)
Collaborate with Marketing to develop brand and sales campaign style guides and taglines (10%)
May sign off on electronic and mechanical proofs, and attend press checks. (10%)
Maintain the comprehensive archive system of all previous and current graphic projects, including regular file back-ups on different drives. (10%)
Maintain a professional level of communication with all internal and external stakeholders. Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned to achieve the goals and objectives of the department. (10%)
AA in graphic design or equivalent art school training AND 2 years of experience as Graphic Design/Illustrator OR and equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional requirements include:
Must be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator) or higher.
Must be detail-oriented and possess superior organizational skills to coordinate several major printing projects simultaneously.
Must be able to work long hours (evenings and weekends) when necessary to meet multiple deadlines
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
A minimum of three years of full-time graphic design experience is strongly preferred.
Additional experience in motion graphics, video production, web design, illustration and or photography will be given added consideration but is not required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Power Point and Excel is helpful.
