The academic departments of the Division of the Humanities have set an international standard for humanistic inquiry. Widely known for their interdisciplinary approach to scholarship and exchange of ideas, the Division’s faculty consistently produces pioneering research that gives us the tools to articulate deep truths about ourselves. The Division comprises seventeen degree programs and other interdisciplinary centers with approximately 800 students enrolled in our PhD, MFA, and MA programs and over 200 academics and faculty all of whom come from areas throughout the world. Humanities Administration within the Division of the Humanities provides service to the University of Chicago’s Humanities community by managing key administrative matters. The Communications Office within Humanities Administration specializes in providing strategic communications services.
Under supervision of the Associate Dean of the Division of the Humanities, the Communications, Senior Analyst, develops, creates, and executes strategic communications plans to support the mission of the Division of the Humanities including its faculty, students, and staff. The Senior Analyst also oversees all non-academic programming of the Dean’s Office, including Divisional events such as Humanities Day, the Berlin Family Lectures, and the Division’s Graduation Ceremony.

Identifies strategic communications goals and creates communications plans to promote the Division and its mission across the University of Chicago and to the public.
Provides oversight and logistical support for the Division’s 3 high-profile events: Humanities Day, Berlin Family Lectures, and the annual Division Graduation Ceremony. This includes programming development with the Dean and faculty, advertising, venue selection, catering, staff support, etc.
Writes and communicates messages across multiple channels—including social media, websites, print publications, and marketing materials—for internal and external audiences and stakeholders such as faculty, staff, prospective students, alumni, donors, and the general public.
Serves as the project manager for the website revision process for all degree-granting programs.
Works with faculty and staff to develop content such as news stories, social media posts, and brochure copy for the Division’s website, social media channels, e-newsletters, and print publications.
Manages the production of Tableau, the Division’s biannual alumni magazine. Works with the Tableau editor from Alumni Relations and Development to contribute story ideas, assist with editorial direction, copyedit, and promote the publication.
Provides writing and editing support to the Dean of the Division of the Humanities.
Plans and manages several budgets in excess of $100,000.
Supervises the Programming and Communications Coordinator.

Education, Experience, and Certifications:
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a communications-related or humanistic field
Graduate degree or other evidence of interest in scholarly activities preferred
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline, preferably in connection with an educational or cultural institution
Experience with budget creation and demonstrated ability to effectively manage budgets required
Previous experience with a Content Management System (CMS) such as Drupal or Wordpress preferred.
Supervisory experience preferred
Technical Knowledge or Skills:
Knowledge of desktop publishing, Web authoring/design, or graphic design software required.
Knowledge of best practices for web content strategy required
