The Communications Specialist IIadministers the Department of Surgery's communications plan incorporating theuse of UTHSC's website, departmental newsletter, social media, and otheroutlets to facilitate communication with current and prospective students, theDepartment of Surgery's alumni, donors, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders.The Coordinator's primary responsibilities are in marketing and communicationsin an effort to promote a positive public image among the department's variousaudiences. The position is responsible for coordinating organization-widedesign, message, and content generation, including electronic and printcommunications.
Designs, creates, updates, and maintains the Department of Surgery web pages that are clear, engaging, informative, up-to-date, and useful in publicizing departmental information for current and prospective students, parents, staff, faculty, and other stakeholders.
Collaborates with the Chair and others to create and develop information for the departmental web pages and ensures information is timely and relevant.
Develops and manages on a daily basis separate, distinct online communities on social media properties, including LinkedIn followers, Facebook fans, Blog, and Twitter followers.
Monitors conversations on multiple platforms in an effort to increase followers' engagement.
Manages creation, production, and dissemination of printed publications for education, development, and administration purposes (such as quarterly newsletter, annual report, course brochures, and exhibition and event postcards).
Writes original material for publication to complement the Department of Surgery goals and mission for a variety of audiences.
Develops factual information and obtain authentic detail.
Assists in the development of local, regional, national new stories, news pitches and stores for external and internal publications.
Collaborates with University faculty and directors for publication development drafts, reviews, and provides follow-up with others as needed for articles due within deadline.
Conducts media relations program for selected events and/or activities.
Writes and distributes press releases. Maintains media archives.
Completes special projects as assigned by the Chair of Surgery and performs other tasks as assigned to support the effective overall positive image of the department.
