The Journalism Program at the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics explores and addresses the ethical dimensions of news practices, tools and technology platforms that distribute news. It hosts and sponsors international events and programs, which attract senior media professionals and garner significant press attention. The Program Manager supports the senior director of the program in implementing the strategic objectives of its Trust Project, which develops tools that incorporate the evidence of trustworthy reporting into news practices, tools and platforms. The Journalism Program Manager reports to and works with the Senior Director of Journalism.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Program Management
• Manage the Trust Project grants program including, but not limited to, Maintain relationships with grantees, Send out and collect grant documentation, Confirm newsroom grantee work has been completed, Manage payment process through the relevant university offices; Work with senior director of the program to foster Center’s relationship with newsroom network, including management of the program’s Facebook group
2. Event Management
• Manage journalism events, including but not limited to: Developing participant list and communicating with participants throughout the process, Managing the event budget, Securing room and catering, Preparing any necessary materials such as signage, handouts, nametags, Preparing event reports
3. Manage Program Budget and Contracts
• Track program spending and budget, Manage expense reports, with SPO on tracking expenditures, Create monthly budget report, Manage journalism contracting
4. Manage journalism research
• Research issues related to Trust Project development
• Research issues related to trust in the news more generally
• Write reports based on research
5. Other duties as assigned, including
• Prepare documents and slides for presentations and workshops
• As assigned
Provides Work Direction
Provides direction to student assistants after coordinating with the Center’s Senior Director of Journalism.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree required.
3 – 5 years relevant experience
Salary Information Hiring Range: $2377.38 - $2732.42 semi-monthly, commensurates with experience
