<p>Extension Agricultural Intern 2018</p><p>Locations: (1) Hutchinson, MN or Litchfield, MN (McLeod or Meeker County Extension Office); (2) St. Cloud, MN (Stearns County Extension Office with responsibilities in Stearns and Benton Counties. Minimal responsibilities in Morrison and Todd Counties); (3) Buffalo, MN (Wright County Extension Office; (4) Little Falls, MN (Morrison County Extension Office with responsibilities in Morrison and Todd Counties. Minimal responsibilities in Stearns and Benton Counties)<br />Timeframe: Mid-May 2018 through August 2018<br />Compensation: $12 per hour. Work related mileage and expenses will be reimbursed. Housing will not be provided.</p><p>Overview<br />The University of Minnesota Extension is offering a paid internship open to bachelor’s degree seeking students. This internship will provide exposure to Minnesota agriculture through local operations, educational programs, on-farm applied research, communications, and program development. This is a 12 week paid internship starting Mid-May 2018 through August 2018. Upon being selected, the intern will go through orientation and will work 30-40 hours per week from May through August (some nights and weekends). <br /><br />Responsibilities<br />*Assist with various duties in the office, including but not limited to:<br />-Writing news releases, program/event promotional materials;<br />-Researching and answering select technical service inquiries;<br />-Copying and filing;<br />-Assisting with Web site content and maintenance.</p><p>*Assist with program or event management including:<br />-Set-up, tear down and management of field days or other events;<br />-Manage registration and food service if needed;<br />-Correspond with speakers, farmers and other Extension educators as needed.</p><p>*Assist with communication projects, including:<br />-Help foster local relationships with other agencies and organizations<br />-Manage social media accounts;<br />-Develop program/event evaluations in cooperation with the local educator.</p><p>*Assist with on-farm research projects or events surrounding research in cooperation with local educators.</p><p>*Assist with educational program development including but not limited to:<br />-Research on program content, potential resources, and design options;<br />-Content development (writing), recording or sourcing;<br />-Conducting small producer focus groups;<br />-Possible video and On-line system mgt., design, scripting, recording, and editing;<br />-Production of program management plan for future use and further program design/development.</p><p>*Be a part of the local office team and assist with county fair and other agriculture related events as requested during the summer.</p>
<div>Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:<br />*Current full-time college student (completed sophomore or junior year is preferred)<br />*Agricultural Education, Agricultural Communications, Horticulture, Animal Science, and Agronomy majors preferred</div><div>*Valid driver’s license</div><div>*Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)<br />*Working knowledge of Minnesota agriculture, including horticulture<br />*Proven communication skills, both written and verbal<br />*Ability and interest to learn additional software systems for educational use<br />*Ability to be flexible and work on a variety of different tasks<br />*A self-starter with the ability to work independently when needed</div><p> </p>
