Reporting to the Vice Provost and Director of Libraries and the Director of Development for Arts and Culture, responsible for the design, management and implementation of a comprehensive development program to raise private and public funds in support of the strategic goals of the Penn Libraries, the President’s Penn Compact 20/20 and the University’s overall development plan. Develop and foster a comprehensive, technology-rich strategic marketing and communications plan to promote the services, collections and programs of the Penn Libraries to a diverse, external audience, including but not limited to current members of the Penn community (faculty, staff, students, administrators); Penn Alumni; Penn parents; private, public and governmental agencies; other research libraries. Collaborate with the University’s central development organization (DAR), drawing upon its support services while integrating Libraries-specific initiatives. As a member of the Libraries’ senior management team, participate with other senior Library staff in planning and policy-making for the Library system and other issues which would contribute to the Library’s obtaining of external funding resources for its support of University academic programs. Establish and maintain contact with prospects to develop their interest and participation in major Library fundraising projects and to provide information concerning the utilization of gifts. Oversees the acceptance, recording and stewardship of gifts-in-kind. Act as principal Library liaison and support officer with the Board of Overseers. Coordinate and assist in developing agendas for semi-annual Board meetings with the Vice Provost’s and Secretary’s offices, identify potential candidates for the Board, oversee the Board nomination and appointment process, plan orientation of new members, manage the committees of the Board. Ensure the Libraries’ image, brand, services and key messages are appropriately communicated to external audiences through print, electronic and social media in accordance with established editorial standards. Create, develop and implement a proactive media strategy; draft press releases, stories, articles and news items publicizing the Libraries, its staff, and their programs, activities and initiatives. Develop and maintain professional contacts and affiliations with news media, including campus, local, and national sources, to facilitate and promote the dissemination of news and publicity about the Penn Libraries. Directly supervise five fulltime employees including two Development officers.
