The Office of University Communications shares the stories of Wesleyan University—highlighting the achievements of our university and its students, faculty, and alumni.
Located in historic South College with satellite offices across campus, the Communications Office develops and executes university-wide and specific strategic marketing and communications efforts, including multimedia and online content, news and media relations, design, social media, publications, photography, web development, video and print production services.
Reporting to the Manager of Video Services, the Video Producer is a hands-on position that performs all aspects of the video production process from ideation, pre-production and planning (script & storyboard) to scheduling and shooting, to post-production, editing, and final delivery of the video programs. The Video Producer will create engaging, informative and effective video programs.
This position is part of a team of video producers within Creative Services. The Creative Services department provides support for video, web, print and design initiatives for the university with a diverse set of clients within admission, arts, athletics, fundraising, academics and the president’s office. Some of the key events that the team supports are Reunion & Commencement, Homecoming, Family Weekend, Athletic sporting events, and Arrival Day.
Creating high-quality videos that enhance Wesleyan’s reputation, attract prospective students, support development and fundraising activities, educate, etc.
Working effectively with groups across campus and collaborating with faculty, staff, students, alumni and other individuals.
Storytelling with moving images; ability to generate new ideas as well as translate the needs of others into proposals.
Ability to identify, visualize and create opportunities for video creation within all university areas.
Managing multiple video projects/schedules effectively while communicating progress clearly. Strong team and client relations skills.
Applying extensive knowledge of videography experience and video production equipment for studio and on-location shoots.
Editing and performing post-production tasks such as audio and color correction, creating title sequences, lower thirds and onscreen graphics and motion graphics for video programs.
Being a strong team player within the video team specifically and University Communications overall.
Keeping up to date on new video technologies, techniques and trends such as drone operation, social media, live-streaming processes, etc.
Cataloging and maintaining library of raw video content and project assets to internal backup storage server and archive.
Participating in group critiques and status meetings regarding complete and upcoming productions.
