| Key Responsibilities: The Manager - Communications will be responsible to accomplish the following:- Working closely with the Director of Communications, help to establish and implement an overall proactive strategic communications agenda for The Pearson Institute, including the institute's evidence-based research agenda, leadership and founding donor communications, and all related activities. - These communications activities are aimed, as appropriate, at international, national, regional and local media, as well as social media channels. - Help identify themes and messaging, develop channels, and aggressively position the leadership of The Pearson Institute and the founding donors among all key audiences. - As a primary role, serve as the day-to-day lead for The Pearson Institute in outreach to the media. This includes story development, and pitching The Pearson Institute's mission and active research programs to the respective media audiences.- Work independently each day as a strong, versatile writer, to produce news releases, white papers, thought leadership, collateral and social media, including content management and content development for The Pearson Institute's comprehensive web site.- Coordinate with the Chicago Harris research teams and social scientists to generate timely internal and external communications underscoring how The Pearson Institute is creating a stronger connection between empirical research and policymaking that has a direct impact on policy.- Contribute to development of a strategic media relations plan to generate broad targeted exposure for The Pearson Global Forum as a high-profile opportunity for the key pillars of policy, and a centerpiece annual event for The Pearson Institute and the University of Chicago.- Emphasize in all communications that the multi-faceted violent conflicts occurring throughout the world demand policymaking informed by the combination of multidisciplinary study, rigorous data-driven research, and sophisticated analysis as performed by The Pearson Institute every day. - Further, emphasize that these vital activities reflect that The Pearson Institute and The Pearson Global Forum are the first research institute and annual global forum of their kind devoted solely to the study and resolution of global conflicts.- Work closely with the Director of Communications to ensure that all messaging considers and reflects the latest significant research findings promulgated by The Pearson Institute, and promote resultant positive impacts on policy whenever possible.- Help build relationships for The Pearson Institute, its leadership and the founding donors on a continuous basis with contacts at top-tier national and international print, electronic and broadcast media.- Seek to leverage social media channels to connect with key audiences. Engage social media influencers and advocates. Research social media-related industry best practices to identify and recommend new tools and platforms. |
