The ideal candidate for this position demonstrates: - A deep understanding of reproductive and sexual justice issues, the intersections of poverty, health, discrimination, race, class, and environment, and the means through which power structures contribute to intersecting inequities - A minimum of four years’ editing and assigning experience with writers and reporters at various levels, preferably online - Fluent knowledge of journalistic ethics and reporting best practices - The ability to work very quickly and shift priorities on a dime - Extremely high standards of quality and very close attention to detail - Creative thinking, good organizational skills, and ability to work comfortably and effectively in a fast-paced environment - Excellent interpersonal communications skills, whether working alone or as part of a team under (sometimes intense) time pressure to deliver great work with ease - The ability to work remotely, and to take direction and critique with grace - An existing network of organizers, reporters, and leaders in the Appalachian region or the capacity to help build one - A strong sense of humor
Rewire is currently a virtual organization. Candidates must be resident in the Eastern or Central time zones and, if not living in, willing to travel to states in the Appalachian region (https://www.arc.gov/appalachian_region/TheAppalachianRegion.asp) when necessary to support reporting.
