The Rural Education Action Program (REAP) is a collaborative effort of researchers at Stanford University, Shaanxi Normal University in Xian, and other affiliated institutions. REAPs mission is to tackle the most pressing health and education problems facing the poor in China. REAP approach is to design and implement randomized control trials. Our approach combines providing direct philanthropy to help low-income children and their families with rigorous before and after evaluation to understand and document the impacts.
REAP has active research programs targeting children of all ages, from birth all the way through college. Our current work focuses primarily on early child development, correcting poor vision, and improving teaching quality in rural schools. In each area, REAP seeks to engage directly with policy makers within China to share the lessons we learn. REAPs ultimate objective is for policy makers to scale up successful efforts and increase the opportunities of low-income children and their families throughout China.
We are seeking a part-time (20 hrs/wk) Communications Associate to provide general communications and administrative support for the Rural Education Action Program (REAP). The Communications Associate will work with project managers to update the website, oversee REAPs social media presence (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube), design and format donor outreach materials, maintain the REAP photo database, and liaise with the Freeman-Spogli Institutes central communications team. The incumbent will be first point of contact for REAP visitors, many of whom are from China or other overseas countries and will be asked to provide general administrative support and manage visa paperwork as needed, and to assist with onboarding the visiting scholars once they arrive at Stanford. The incumbent will manage occasional group events, including talks given by both internal and external speakers. This may include managing logistics such as catering, booking hotels and flights, booking conference rooms, and assisting with speaker setup.

Under direct supervision, provide support in planning, coordinating, and implementing communication programs that support public relations strategies and programs.
- Assist in the implementation of and support program communication efforts, including timely creation and editing of marketing campaigns, websites, blogs, emails, and newsletters.
- Assist others in identifying and developing campus news stories.
- Review upcoming events, seminars, research reports, grant summaries, campus documents, specialized journals, and newsletters for possible leads to news and feature stories.
- Assist in the production of content for the applicable university or unit websites; promote news stories to targeted regional, national, and international media.
- Coordinate media relations, and ensure logistics and preparations are handled for media staff.

Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and one year of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated planning and/or project management and organizational skills.
- Ability to be self-directed and take initiative.
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated interest in development issues desired.
- Strong English language skills required; conversational fluency in Mandarin Chinese desired.
- Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop desired.
- Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
- Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, speaking.
- Occasionally grasp forcefully, writing by hand.
- Rarely sort/file paperwork.
