The History Department presently has 24 full-time faculty, two long-term continuing lecturers, five Unit 18 lecturers, two visiting assistant professors, and four administrative staff. The department offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees with approximately 494 declared undergraduate majors, 41 minors, and 40 graduate students. History also manages the Classical studies major (27) and minor (8), German studies major (11), the East Asian studies minor (18), the Jewish studies major (5) and minor (10), and the Greek and Latin language courses. The department averages about 722 proposed and declared undergraduate students per academic year. Overall, the department annually enrolls the equivalent of 4,800 plus undergraduate students and 60 plus graduate students in its courses. The department appoints more than 70 Teaching Assistants annually.
Under the direction of the department manager and undergraduate program coordinator/assistant manager, the incumbent provides academic and administrative support to the department in all function areas. Primary areas of responsibility include: curriculum and instructional support, undergraduate program support, academic personnel, development, and web support.
Demonstrated administrative and clerical experience in an office environment.
Demonstrated experience using computer applications (word processing, spreadsheet, database, web, PDF), social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn), internet navigation, and e-mail; experience in web editing and design; experience creating online surveys; experience with desktop publishing and/or design; working knowledge of the Macintosh computer platform.
Demonstrated ability to write concise, logical, and grammatically correct business correspondence, and news items for publication on web pages.
Demonstrated work experience requiring excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
Demonstrated experience working with a diverse population including faculty, staff, students, and the general public.
