Stanford Social Innovation Review (SSIR) produces a wide-range of editorial content for leaders of nonprofits, businesses, and governments around the world engaged in social innovation. SSIR operates like a small media company within Stanford University, producing a quarterly paid-subscription magazine; a website that publishes new articles and podcasts daily; webinars; and conferences. Every year more than 2 million people around the world read SSIR articles, listen to SSIR podcasts and webinars, and attend SSIR conferences. SSIR is a part of the Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society, an academic center within the School of Humanities and Sciences that brings together faculty, students, and practitioners to develop and share knowledge about philanthropy, civil society, and social change.
There are seven full-time employees at SSIR, four on the editorial side and three on the business side. SSIR is growing rapidly, and is adding a fifth person to the editorial team, an Assistant Editor, who will be dedicated to working on the website and with digital content and will report directly to the Senior Digital Editor. The new Assistant Editor will be responsible for editing at least two online articles weekly; curating and writing themed content and round-ups monthly; producing at least one podcast or book excerpt weekly; and promoting all online content via social media and other outlets. They will also be responsible for overseeing two part-time student interns; producing analytical reports on web traffic and social media activity; supporting the production of e-newsletters; uploading content to the web as needed; generating ideas for content and website enhancements; and other tasks.
Research, write, and edit publications for style and substance.
Review contents to be disseminated through websites and print publications in consultation with supervisor.
Edit manuscripts for content, style, and organization.
Check editorials for accuracy, and use own judgment in critiquing the work.
Coordinate publication/editorial schedules, and monitor process in consultation with supervisor or client.
Work within deadlines and cost constraints of clients.
Coordinate and facilitate publication process with writers, editors, photographers, vendors, and contractors.
Establish and maintain communication with internal clients and external media outlets to facilitate promotion and information dissemination.

Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant work experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated understanding of the principles, terminology, procedures, and best practices of communications, public relations, and editorial content.
Considerable experience editing manuscripts for form, content, style, and organization.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate and advise SME on effective writing, publication, and information-giving techniques to reach target audiences.
Demonstrated experience of job-required software applications.
Demonstrated ability to perform detailed work with high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to initiate and develop sources for features, news release, bulletin, etc.
Experience conducting source-gathering, interview administration, and performing research for appropriate contents and media.
Certifications and Licenses:
Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, and grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
Occasionally grasp forcefully, writing by hand.
Rarely sort/file paperwork; lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
