This position is responsible for supporting the work of Civios, a repository for Public Affairs research, the Hubert Project, a global platform for multimedia public affairs learning materials, as well as general internal/external communications strategies for the Humphrey School of Public Affairs. The position includes project management, strategic planning, content development, communications/marketing/website maintenance, and requires a general understanding of best practices for digital communications tools and technology. This is a shared position between the Technology Enhanced Learning and Communications teams with overlapping and similar responsibilities. The person in this position will divide her/his time equally between both departments and take work direction from the Director of Technology Enhanced Learning and the Director of Communications.
Communications & Website Development 50% • Implement communication strategies focused on using social networking platforms and email to build an online community among public affairs instructors & practitioners globally for both repositories, as well as to promote news and events of the Humphrey School. • Write and edit promotional, feature, and news items for use in various digital and print materials, this includes promoting Civios, School, and Hubert initiatives to key stakeholders. • Work collaboratively with authors to design and deploy a Knowledge Network creation strategy to promote Civios. • Identify and capitalize on opportunities to reinforce key school messages and themes via social media channels. • Maintain and revise websites for Humphrey School, Civios, and the Hubert Project. • Create and distribute electronic newsletters and other mass communications for the Humphrey School. • Maintain editorial calendar to ensure consistent communications across all channels.
Project Management & Implementation 35% • Under the supervision of the Director of Technology Enhanced Learning, manage the development of multimedia e-learning materials by faculty, consultants, research assistants and public affairs managers to expand the Civios and Hubert Project repositories. • Manage the work of graduate research assistants in creating learning materials for Hubert Project and CIVIOS. • Create research-informed e-learning materials for Hubert Project and CIVIOS. • Under the supervision of the Director of Communications, develop and manage social media campaigns and strategies designed to increase awareness of the Humphrey School by communicating about faculty research and school initiatives, and to increase student enrollment.
Evaluation & Analytics 15% • Develop and utilize analytical tools to evaluate and report on digital communications performance for Civios and the Humphrey School and modify strategies accordingly. • Under the supervision of the Director of Technology Enhanced Learning and in collaboration with the repository advisory boards, research and evaluate fund development/business sustainability opportunities for the Hubert Project and the CIVIOS repositories. • Research, develop, and implement standards and practices for digital communications, including email, website and social media. • Maintain databases within contact resource management systems for distribution of repository content and general school communications.
Requires BA/BS degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field plus 2 years professional experience, or 6 years combined equivalent education and experience.
Skilled in managing multiple projects simultaneously, working independently and efficiently.
Demonstrated excellent writing and communication skills, including experience with online communications.
A breadth of software competency is required: audio/video editing, word processing/spreadsheets, project management tools, basic HTML, website maintenance, along with basic knowledge in Adobe Suite
Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, including demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member, to function comfortably in an academic setting and to interact with a diverse group of individuals, organizations and the public.
Experience with creation of multimedia learning materials.
Experience in Adobe Audition, SCALAR, video editing software
