Job Posting: Summary of Essential Job Duties: Regular full-time staff position reporting to the Director of Communications, The Senior Communications Specialist develops and implements strategic media and communications plans to promote Cedars-Sinai Health System's clinical, research and operational expertise. Responsibilities include identifying news and feature stories about the neurosciences and other institutional beats for news media promotion and other communications channels; writing and distributing news releases; pitching stories to traditional and online media; writing for internal publications; and editing written copy for the Communications team as needed. This individual translates complex science and technical jargon for lay audiences, and contributes to the production of video content, social media content and collateral materials as needed. The Senior Communications Specialist responds to media inquiries, including those involving breaking news on tight deadlines. This individual collaborates regularly with others across the Communications, Marketing, Content Development, Brand Strategy and Digital Strategy departments, as well as with other Cedars-Sinai programs, staff and faculty, to execute external and internal communications projects.
Qualification Requirements/Preferences: Education Certifications/Licensure Experience Physical Abilities Educational Requirements: Bachelor's degree in communications or related field required (Master's degree preferred) License/Certification/Registration Requirements: N/A Experience: At least 7 years prior communications experience related to journalism, public relations/media relations or marketing. Excellent and demonstrated writing and editing skills. Demonstrated ability to translate complex subject matter, dense science and technical jargon for lay audiences. Experience creating and editing web content and expertise with search engine optimization. Excellent organizational skills, including knowledge of online databases. Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple timelines simultaneously. Proven track record of client service, including ability to listen carefully to clients to identify their goals and then execute on a plan to meet those goals. Proven ability to work efficiently and collaboratively with peers, teams, staff at all organization levels, and volunteer leadership. Must be able to perform duties in a fast paced, high volume environment with frequent interruptions. Experience working in healthcare, nonprofit institution, corporate communications, a plus. Physical Demands: May require constant sitting and ability to use computer keyboard for extended periods of time.
