1. Writes news releases, pitches, and long- and short-form articles about Yale initiatives, programs, people, and events. 2. Arranges for photographs, illustrations, slideshows, infographics, and/or videos, and podcasts to accompany stories; writes captions and supplementary material as needed. 3. Develops close relationships with faculty members across a range of disciplines, and with reporters at print, broadcast, and online outlets. 4. Works closely with OPAC communications officers, social media and video teams, and other OPAC writers and editors in editorial/content meetings and helps establish priorities. 5. Supports the activities of the Office of Public Affairs & Communications. Works with communications colleagues throughout the school and university to highlight the work of researchers, creates a high-profile presence, and reaches new audiences. 6. Builds relationships with faculty, administrators, departments and students. 7. Monitors trending news topics.
Preferred Education: Proficiency with technical communications tools, such as content management systems, email messaging, video shooting and editing, Photoshop and HTML editing is highly desirable. Familiarity with the academic environment. Knowledge of AP style.
