The primary responsibility is to lead production of key internal communication vehicles, with an emphasis on those targeting constituents at Bloomington and IUPUI campuses. As part of an integrated team, the coordinator will also engage in efforts for regional campus needs by, for example, repurposing content or advising on local implications and recommending related messaging strategies for internal communication vehicles.
The Digital Content & Analytics Senior Coordinator works closely with the Internal Communications Manager and internal communications staff along with News Director and news team to support strategy and production of engaging news and informational content for Indiana University faculty and staff communications while strengthening the campus’s reputation among key stakeholders, across a wide spectrum of internal audience channels including four email newsletters, digital and social content.
The coordinator will conceptualize and manage content flow, while reinforcing IU's strategic messaging through the optimal organization, formatting and publishing of written and visual communications for electronic distribution. The coordinator will work independently to determine content that most effectively addresses the informational needs of IU faculty and staff and advances the university’s top institutional priorities. To this end, the coordinator will be expected to exercise sound – and often independent – editorial judgment related to news content, photography, videography and graphics, and other supporting materials that contribute to stories that are both engaging to the reader and effective in promoting and publicizing IU’s key strategic messages.
The coordinator is responsible for monitoring and managing the progress and production of editorial projects; coordinating graphical elements for stories, including photo, video and infographics; scheduling editorial assignments within internal IU Communications departments and campus communications offices; writing and editing stories; and tracking weekly newsletter production schedules.
Specifically, the coordinator will lead use of distribution mechanisms, such as Salesforce, advising and directing other team members in tailoring messages and testing message receipt. This will involve training and ongoing support.
The position will play a key role in scheduling social media posts on Twitter and Facebook and tracking social media metrics. The position will send email newsletters on a schedule that includes up to three newsletters a week during the academic year, and track weekly analytics on each newsletter and their respective websites.
This position requires strong writing, editing and communication skills, both at the strategic and tactical levels, motivation to seek out and learn new technology and communications platforms for an online audience; and the ability to coordinate with photo/video teams on the creation of multimedia story packages.
Other duties include oversight of the events calendar system and asset management auditing and oversight, including advising and assigning images to be captured for the image library.
REQUIRED: Bachelor's Degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or related field, plus 5 years of applicable experience in public relations, communications and/or online technologies.
Knowledge, skills and abilities: Public relations and social media knowledge, writing and editing skills, understanding of strategic planning and market research processes. Exceptional organizational and analytical skills with a high degree of discretion and judgement regarding complex and sometimes sensitive information.
3 years experience using new and emerging technologies.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
This is basically an office position with some outside travel. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery. A high level of concentration when working under deadline or responding to emergencies is required, which is mentally taxing.
