Among the 40 Colleges That Change Lives, and ranked first in the nation for study abroad programs by U.S. News & World Report, Goucher is a selective, liberal arts college located 20 minutes north of Baltimore, MD. Goucher College enrolls approximately 1,500 undergraduates, 84% of whom live on campus, and 1,200 graduate students. Goucher’s reimagined Career Education Office (CEO) is launching its new flagship program Goucher Advantage. The Goucher Advantage makes career education a central element of every Goucher student’s experience through curriculum, community, and professional experiences. As part of the implementation of this new model, industry-based career communities are being created.
We invite applications from collaborative, innovative, and dynamic candidates for the position of career community advisor. Reporting to the assistant director for career advising and student engagement, the career community advisor for the Business, Entreprenurship, Technology & Analytics Community (BETA) will create physical and virtual communities that educate Goucher students on employment trends and issues, provide knowledge and connection to resources, generates employment opportunities, and connect students to community mentors. The incumbent will: develop, launch and manage the BETA community; plan and execute activities and events that meet the unique needs of community members; establish avenues for students to connect with alumni, families and employers to assist students’ learning about and gaining access to various careers; work with the CEO and Goucher Advancement Division to support employers and alumni in recruiting Goucher students; utilize technology and social media to brand communities and increase awareness of career resources, programs and opportunities; advise students through career preparation and search processes in individual appointments, drop-in, and presentations; closely collaborate with other community advisors and CEO team for continued development of career communities program.
Qualified candidates will possess a Master’s degree in counseling, student affairs, higher education, or human resources, and at least one year of experience in career services, higher education, human resources, or related field. The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in program planning and execution, group facilitation, and advising college students. Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of constituents is required. The successful candidate must be detail oriented and possess excellent communication, organizational and presentation skills. Candidates must also possess experience and comfort with technology, social media and digital communication. The ideal candidate will bring a unique perspective and creative ideas, and be adaptable to changing trends working in a fast-paced environment. Specialized knowledge of career paths within BETA fields is preferred.
