WRITER AND WEB PRODUCER, MIT News Office, to write about MIT entrepreneurship and innovation and manage the daily operations of MIT News website. Writing responsibilities include generating at least one story idea per week; interviewing faculty, students, staff, postdocs, and alumni for news articles; writing one news story a week (800 to 1,000 words); collaborating with media relations team to adapt news stories for distribution to news media; proposing visual/multimedia elements to accompany articles; and liaising with stakeholders to gain approval of content prior to publication. Web management responsibilities include posting an average of two stories daily on MIT News; writing and editing photo captions; preparing MIT News and mit.edu homepages for publication; embedding video and other multimedia elements to enhance stories; working with web developer to ensure smooth operation of MIT News site; coordinating the posting of MIT News stories with other communications to the MIT community; and ensuring that metadata is optimized to maximize traffic.
Job Requirements REQUIRED: bachelor's degree; a minimum of five years of experience, preferably in an editorial or academic setting; strong reporting, writing, and editing skills; experience with content management systems, web management, and web analytics; strong organizational skills; ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a busy office with frequent interruptions; knowledge of AP style; and proven commitment to keeping work on schedule.
