The Mobile Editor will help develop mobile strategy, take the operational lead on newsroom mobile initiatives, and serve as the newsroom’s primary mobile contact for product, marketing and all other PMN divisions. A deep understanding of mobile audience behavior is essential, as are prior newsroom experience and strong communication and collaboration skills.
As Mobile Editor, you’ll stay on top of the changing needs of our mobile audiences and identify opportunities big and small to optimize our journalism for a majority-mobile audience. You’ll collaborate closely with product managers, developers and senior PMN leadership to prioritize, develop and roll out new mobile initiatives. And you’ll have access to the talent and network of connections made available to the newsroom by our owners, the Lenfest Institute.
Collaborate with producers, editors, reporters, audience and visuals to identify mobile opportunities and pitfalls in our journalism
Identify stories or coverage areas that could integrate mobile storytelling functionality such as accelerometer control, voice interaction, geolocation or touch interface
Coordinate with product and marketing to ensure user testing is part of all major mobile initiatives
Work with product, visuals and the newsroom to refine and/or reinvent standard story forms for mobile audiences
Act as newsroom project manager for all mobile initiatives
Help foster a mobile-first culture across the newsroom
Measure engagement and reach analytics for mobile
Serve as the lead editorial contact for development and maintenance of our own mobile apps and publication to third-party mobile apps
Help shape the company’s mobile strategy as a cornerstone of our overall digital strategy
A minimum of three years of professional experience, including at least one year in a media organization
Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience
Basic understanding of product development process, workflows and Agile
Ability to work in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment
Strong project management skills
Ability to deeply analyze data to inform decisions on strategy and tactics
Good understanding of modern digital content management tools and the ability to quickly master new tools and techniques as they arise
Some experience with digital design and front-end development tools is preferred
