This position is a 12-month annual appointment within a dynamic and successful campus recreation department serving over 90% of the UWL student body. The coordinator reports to the Associate Director of Rec Sports with primary responsibilities to serve as the manager of the Fitness Center and coordinator of the group fitness program. This includes, but is not limited to supervision of student staff, management of the fitness center, administration of equipment inventory and maintenance plan, and coordination of group fitness and personal training programs. The Fitness Coordinator serves as part of the administrative team for the Recreational Sports Department and as such, participates in all unit functions.

Bachelor’s degree in Fitness Management, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Recreation, Sport Management or related field
Minimum of two years of experience in university or private sector fitness facility
Current certification or working toward certification from American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National Strength Conditioning Association (NSCA), or equivalent certification accredited by the National Commission of Certifying Agencies (NCCA)
Prior supervisory experience, which may include student staff
Master’s degree in Fitness Management, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Recreation, Sport Management or related field
At least 2 years of experience in management of a fitness facility in a university recreation environment (graduate assistantship is applicable)
Ability to create and foster an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere within the fitness center
Experience in student development and fostering a hands-on learning environment
Ability to develop innovative programming to meet the diverse needs, interests, and skill levels of an active, evolving campus community
Certification in ACSM (Exercise Physiologist) and NSCA (CSCS)
Certification in USA Weightlifting (USAW)
Personal training certification(s) from at least one of the following: ACE, ACSM, AFFA, and/or NSCA
Group fitness certification(s) from at least one of the following: ACE, ACSM, AFFA, and/or NSCA
Experience in maintenance and repair of fitness equipment
First Aid/CPR/AED instructor
Prior experience developing and managing budgets
Strong team player with ability to work independently and willingness to work long and irregular hours
Exceptional communicator with strong organizational skills, ability to multitask, problem solve, and establish priorities
Proficient in numerous software applications such as Innosoft Fusion, Connect2, WhenToWork, Microsoft Office
Ability to effectively utilize various social media tools
