Under the direction of the Manager, Media Relations, this individual writes and edits original content for the Instituteâ™s Internet home page and key publications, including but not limited to: Press releases, Inside Salk Magazine, Scientific Report, Fast Facts, email newsletters and institute collateral. Creates, edits, organizes and updates content, and takes a deadline-driven approach in helping to shape and publish materials to meet standards for content consistency and editorial style before such documents are approved for publication. As an integral member of the Communications team, develops content for communicating the research and mission of the Salk Institute, with a special emphasis on scientific discoveries for the lay audience. Editorial responsibilities support the Institute's news, media outreach, social media and Web priorities and functions.
Assists in producing institute collateral and proposals materials includes writing the scientific portion of proposals, grants, content for fundraising tools and faculty support. Content development includes acting as the key scientific translator for the collateral materials created by Development staff. Incumbent is an active member of the Communications team, establishing the appropriate message for the Salk audience.
Bachelorâ™s Degree in a related field.
Masterâ™s Degree or higher in life sciences or communications field.
Must be willing to work in an animal-related research environment.
Must be able to work evenings and weekends, as required.
Regularly handles confidential information including proprietary scientific and commercial information. Must be able to maintain confidentiality. Must sign an employee confidentiality agreement.
Satisfactory completion of the Instituteâ™s background investigation.
