The Communications and Outreach Specialist leads the development and implementation of Peninsula School’s internal and external communications to strengthen the connections between Peninsula School and its constituencies and raise the School’s visibility in the community at large. The role requires creating and implementing strategies and tactics for content and design that fulfill communications goals including managing media relations.
Of utmost importance, the Communications and Outreach Specialist works collaboratively with administrators, staff, faculty, and, as needed, outside vendors, to clearly articulate and celebrate the school’s unique program and vision of progressive education.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Leadership for Peninsula School’s Communication Strategy
Work with the Head of School to ensure that strategic communication goals are developed and in place that guide the work of communications initiatives of the school.
Evaluate progress toward these goals, refine as needed and communicate progress to Head of School.
Work collaboratively with the Head of School and staff to develop clear and creative communications that articulate the school’s mission, values, vision, program and strategic goals.
Develop strategies and tactics that optimize the school’s position in the independent school market in the surrounding towns.
Initiate and direct strategic publicity for special on- and off-campus events that enhance the School’s visibility among constituent groups including prospective families, current students and parents, alumni, and friends of the School.
Develop and implement consistent and coordinated print, electronic, social media and multi-media communications media to support institutional goals and priorities.
Implementation of Communication Strategy and Goals
Liaise with administrators and faculty to identify School news to communicate through various mediums to a range of constituencies.
Work closely with Development, Admissions, Parents of Peninsula (POP) and Summer Program on marketing and communications tasks related to events and event planning.
Oversee and develop content for the School’s website.
Develop and implement a social media plan that supports the School’s recruitment, retention, alumni and development efforts.
Write, edit, and proofread articles, proposals, templates, letters, reports, print and electronic communications and publications.
Serve as the editor of News Notes, Hot News (the School’s biannual magazine and weekly newsletter, respectively), the Annual Report, and other print and multi-media publications as developed over time.
Develop marketing messaging to support annual, capital, and major gifts fundraising campaigns.
Propose and oversee the School’s communications and outreach budget.
Oversee and support the maintenance of the School’s photo, video and print archives.
Develop and manage relationships with local and regional media representatives.
Write press releases and pitch school news to media outlets.
Maintain a collaborative relationship with peers outside of the School in order to be informed of communications and marketing trends and best practices.
Monitor the School’s online reputation.
Participate in School-wide events and meetings (staff, board, admin)
Accept and perform other duties, as assigned.
Demonstrate a keen ability to convey the School's program, opportunities and vision to an array of constituencies with passion and eloquence.
Demonstrate excellent and effective written, verbal and visual communications.

Bachelor's degree, preferably in English, Communications or Graphic Design.
Professional experience related to communications and/or marketing.
Occasional availability on nights or weekends.
Initial and continued criminal background clearance by DOJ and FBI
