The College of the Arts (CART) seeks an innovative and forward-thinking professional to direct its expanding Office of Career Services. Reporting to the CART Assistant Dean, the Director of CART Career Services will manage a unit which encompasses, but is not limited to: career advisement; internships and experiential learning; employer relations; resume reviews; personal branding; interview skill development; job search and entrepreneurial strategies; classroom presentations; and career education in a university that values diversity and nurturing of differing perspectives. In such capacity, the Director will ensure that career services for students are relevant to the college’s degree programs in art and design, theatre, dance, music, media and communication. Moreover, s/he will cooperate with colleagues from across the university, including its Center for Career Services and units within and beyond CART, to foster career development broadly.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Design, develop, execute and evaluate a comprehensive career development program which reflects the above-defined areas and supports student satisfaction and graduation outcomes; organizing and sharing responsibilities with staff where appropriate.
Develop programming, events and/or coursework which strengthen student engagement with CART Career Services and fills gaps in the college’s career preparation curriculum, advising academic leaders and faculty where appropriate.
Develop written plans, focus groups, surveys, data analyses and annual reports to assess progress with above objectives in relation to researched best practices.
Participate with university programs such as career fairs, open house events, and new student orientations. Develop career events/activities which cater to the specialized needs of arts students.
Expand and cultivate employer relationships to increase job and internship opportunities, especially those which would appeal to students studying the visual, performing and communication arts. Develop potential for mentorship and guest speaker relationships with alumni and board members where possible.
Work with students and faculty through all phases of the internship/cooperative education process including defining roles and best practices, completion of applications, processing forms, entering permits, conducting assessments and developing reports.
Counsel students one-on-one regarding all career services offered, maintaining confidentiality as appropriate. Refer students to other help resources, such as psychological counseling, if and when indicated.
Conduct group presentations, serving classes such as Freshman and Senior Seminar(s), capstone courses, residential communities, and student clubs/organizations.
Partner with faculty to help students develop self-promotional tools such as web pages and Linkedin profiles, and/or special skills in areas such as grant writing, discipline-specific networking and applying their developing arts skills to related industries.
Incorporate service tools such as Career Assessment Inventories, and job posting systems; plus software applications such as Symplicity, Banner, and Focus 2, among others.
Create engaging content for information materials, social media, news platforms, push communications and the Web (http://www.montclair.edu/arts/student-services/college-career-services/).
Represent CART at career development meetings, serving on committees where appropriate. Maintain membership and involvement in professional organizations.
Supervise and organize work for professional and/or student assistant staff, where applicable, relative to above responsibilities.
Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Master’s degree, preferably in a human services, counseling or student personnel related field; additional background in the arts, a plus.
Minimum three to five years’ working in a college career-counseling/office, preferably in a leadership or emerging leadership capacity.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong presentation and teaching skills, able to lead group presentations and interactive workshops for college students.
Strong one-on-one advising skills.
General knowledge of career counseling best practices, employment trends, and higher education curriculum and protocols.
Strong technical skills and ability to manage data for decision making. (Experience using Banner, Symplicity, Survey tools, MS Office Suite, and career management tools, highly desirable.)
Must be detail/results-oriented; able to work independently, with minimal supervision, on concurrent projects in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Able to organize work for professional and/or student staff member(s)
Able to work occasional evenings/weekends to support programming, where required.
Demonstrated ability to proactively lead career development, student engagement, and employer relationship building with a commitment to innovation and continuous improvement. Experience in a growing multifaceted career services unit, a plus.
Able to collaborate across multi-functional internal partners including with administrators, faculty, and students from diverse backgrounds.
Experience with assessment and report writing.
Events planning experience, a plus.
Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate knowledge of career fields in the arts and experience with addressing the specialized needs of arts students.
