The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is looking for a socialmedia innovator to join our newsroom and help establish a voice in the Pittsburgh market that readers will find conversational, informative and captivating.
This role combines a self-starting attitude with a keen attention to detail, strong sense of audience engagement, editorial judgment and writing skills, and the ability to handle a fast-paced newsroom environment.
Use socialmedia to find and develop news sources, generate leads for stories and to engage our followers
Stay up-to-date on digital innovations, tools and best practices
Lead socialmedia initiatives and keep newsroom informed
Post relevant, engaging content in a variety of ways on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other platforms
Develop socialmedia plans for long-term projects
Write, edit, package and publish content on the Post-Gazette's desktop and mobile sites, apps and socialmedia accounts
Develop content around news events across multiple platforms by collaborating with other editors and reporters on the digital team and throughout the entire newsroom
Track analytics and report effectiveness of content, tactics and campaigns
Minimum 2 years of experience as a socialmediaeditor or reporter at a news organization that generates content under tight deadlines.
Must be a skilled writer with outstanding communication skills
Must be able to work early morning, night and weekend hours
BS/BA degree, preferably in journalism
Familiarity with analytics tools, including Chartbeat, CrowdTangle, Facebook Insights and Twitter Analytics
Experience editing video and creating galleries
Desire to work in a creative, demanding, competitive environment
Working knowledge of content management systems
Excellent editing and writing skills
