The senior communications specialist will contribute to the effective execution of internal communications associated with change management and organizational transformation efforts related to MyDay, a complex program designed to improve WashU’s operational excellence and ability to make insight-driven decisions. MyDay is an exciting, once-in-a-generation effort to replace the university’s core administrative IT systems (human resource, finance, and student) and improve associated business processes. The multi-year effort will replace these systems with a single system (Workday) that will integrate the university’s core administrative data in the cloud. The sr. communications specialist, who will work as part of a team of communications and change management professionals, plays a central role in developing and implementing plans to create awareness, understanding, engagement, acceptance and adoption of the new system, as well as new ways of working.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide day-to-day communications project management and communications plan execution for the MyDay program. Write, edit, and adapt custom messaging for identified audiences while following well planned approaches and aggressive timelines. Ensure communications are consistent in terms of messaging and visual branding. Proactively identify and elevate issues and concerns in a timely way.
Conduct copywriting, conceptualization, design, layout, updates to existing materials, and extensive text revisions. Review and edit content developed by other members of the MyDay team, as needed.
Develop and execute communications plans in support of an end-to-end change management strategy in support of the MyDay program. Activities may include, but are not limited to, leading brainstorm and ideation sessions, participating in stakeholder outreach, setting measurable objectives, assessing results, and making recommendations regarding resource needs.
Prepare speeches, briefings, web content, articles, email content, video scripts, progress updates, podcasts, and presentations for a variety of internal audiences and relevant communications channels.

Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Marketing, Communications, or Public Relations) or an equivalent of education and experience, plus minimum 3 years of directly related professional work experience, including creating and implementing communication plans.
Five years professional work experience including creating and implementing communications plans.
Experience working in higher education and IT.
Understanding of and experience with information technology and enterprise resource planning systems.
Demonstrated experience working with senior level management.
Demonstrated results developing large complex communication campaigns.
Demonstrated experience driving website creation, improvements and analytics.
Understanding of HTML and basic website development.
Experience working with WordPress.
Experience with event planning and coordination.
Experience with media relations efforts and activities.
Strong knowledge of fundamental concepts, best practices and procedures of communication, marketing, and public relations methods and techniques.
Demonstrated experience developing, writing, and editing original work for a variety of vehicles both print and online (targeted email, web, social media, slide presentations, feature articles, news releases) as well as reviewing communication work of others.
Strong sense of narrative story telling.
Critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting.
Successful experience providing communications advice and support to help customers create build and protect their reputation, products and services.
Experience in design/visual communication.
Understanding of basic graphic design principles.
Experience working with Adobe Creative Cloud applications, specifically Photoshop and InDesign.
Understanding of basic email marketing principles and development.
Experience working at an advanced level with Microsoft Office applications.
Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills and proven ability to prioritize and multiple tasks within established and changing deadlines.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a wide variety of teams.
Must be self-motivated, flexible and easily adaptable to changing needs. No job is too big or too small.

The hiring range for this position is $47,151 - $61,289 annually.
