This is a non-tenured faculty position reporting to the Assistant University Librarian for Teaching, Research, and Engagement. The Communication & Engagement Librarian coordinates the development of library outreach and communication strategies designed to inform, engage, and build relationships with campus stakeholders and community partners. Promotes library resources, services, and programs to create awareness, engagement with the library and librarians, and integration of the library into teaching and learning at the university. Collaborates with library staff and campus partners to develop, deliver, integrate and assess impact of library messages and brand. Represents the library at campus, community, and professional programs and events. Oversees the library’s social media presence and serves as the library’s media relations contact. Serves as the liaison to the University Marketing and Communications department and other related university units providing community engagement services and resources.
Leads outreach efforts by identifying and developing strategies to enhance perceptions of the library and engagement with library resources, services, and programs. Develop measurable objectives to evaluate the effectiveness of outreach activities. Assess the impact of library messaging and brand recognition.
Leads strategic communications for the library, independently developing and collaboratively coordinating the execution of communications and outreach plans. Serve as the library’s media relations contact and as liaison to the University Marketing and Communications Department.
Develops print and digital promotional materials that effectively communicate the library’s mission, services, and news to a variety of audiences. Write and edit articles for library and university publications.
Oversees the library’s social media presence, and regularly contribute content to the library’s Twitter, Facebook and blog. Train individuals who are delegated the responsibility of posting to social media.
Collaboratively facilitate the redesign and updating design of the library’s website. Maintain and publish the library’s events calendar.
Contributes to library program planning and event coordination.
Represents the library at programs and events on campus and off campus in order to build and maintain relationships with community members.
Supports fundraising activities by contributing content related to promotion to grant applications, coordinating with the Advancement Office to plan the library’s campaign for the Duquesne Day of Giving, and maintaining the library’s donor relations web pages.
Coordinates with the Alumni Affairs Office for library participation in program planning for Homecoming and other events.
Serves as faculty liaison to the Journalism and Multimedia Arts department. Provide subject reference, research consultations, and instruction services. Assist faculty in selecting materials for the collection, review library holdings in assigned subject areas, and contribute to accreditation reports.
Teaches the Research and Information Skills course as well as other course-integrated sessions to support the library’s information literacy goals.
Serves on appropriate library and university committees, including leadership of selected committees; serve on professional organization committees related to position responsibilities and in alignment with promotion criteria.
Participates in scholarly and professional activities including publication of journal articles and book reviews, and presentations at regional and national professional conferences that contribute to the practice of outreach and communication or academic librarianship.

M.L.S. or M.L.I.S. from an American Library Association accredited institution or foreign equivalent.
Experience as a professional librarian, preferably in an academic library.
Experience in creating, editing, and promoting written and visual content for marketing, and outreach with a high level of attention to detail.
Knowledge of methods, practices, and techniques of marketing, communications, and community relations in an academic library setting, including managing social media.
Knowledge of graphic design and publication processes.
Excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate effectively within and outside of the library with diverse faculty, staff, library users, and community members.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including writing and editing for print and web publication.
Proficiency with software platforms and online publishing technologies, including publication software, photo editing and management software, graphic design, and social media.
Excellent time management and organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
Demonstrated record of designing, prioritizing, completing, and assessing projects in a timely manner.
Excellent presentation skills.
Familiarity with assessment.
Ability to adapt to change, and to work independently and collaboratively in a complex environment.
Willingness to work a varied schedule including evening and weekends as needed to support events and deadlines.
Knowledge of information literacy and techniques of library instruction.
Ability to understand and willingness to support the University Mission Statement.
Ability to meet the criteria for the library’s promotion process at or above the level of Associate Librarian.
Experience in networking and building support of libraries among community stakeholders.

Second Master’s degree in an academic discipline, or coursework or professional development in journalism, multimedia, communications, or technology relevant to the position.
