The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Institute of Human Virology (IHV) is currently recruiting for a Manager, Public Relations . Under the supervision of the IHV CIHEB Director, this position will provide strategic marketing and communication expertise and guidance to the IHV Center for International Health, Education and Biosecurity. This position will be responsible for communicating the mission and vision of the Center and for promoting the Center's work internally within the University and externally to funders, global health community and partners. The position will be responsible for developing and disseminating visually appealing and concisely written materials for global health delivery, health systems strengthening and implementation science. The position will oversee and optimization of various communication channels and develop materials in various formats including web content, program briefs, blogs, training and presentations.

Research and develop materials targeting various constituents and stakeholders
Advise leadership on strategic and effective reactions to breaking news or public relations opportunities. In coordination with the Institute's head of Communications, develops and carries out tactical plans.
Manages standard public relations situations, such as writing and editing, planning special events, working with vendors, handling constituent requests to ensure communications goals and objectives are achieved. Communicates with faculty, staff and students.
Manages social media and raises visibility on the web.
Develop marketing materials to be distributed at conferences and other strategic global health events
Organize conferences and other events aimed at improving visibility of IHV CIHEB's global health impact
Plan and coordinate public relations and marketing activities to increase visibility of the Center leadership
Guide and quality country offices communication and public relations delivery
Plans and writes stories, drafts news advisories and releases. Stories and articles may appear in publications or on the Web.
Collaborates with IHV head of Communications on media, editorial, web and social media outreach.
Stays current on changing global health developments and trends.
Develop communication and marketing templates to be used by staff and faculty
Provide editorial and design support for visually appealing presentations, publications and other program technical documents
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Master's Degree in Journalism, Communication, Public Relations, or related field.
Experience: Five (5) years of experience in marketing, public relations, communications, or media, public, or client relations in an academic setting, or equivalent. At least three (3) years of experience working in public health communication field.
Global health experience a plus.
Excellent writing skills and editing skills.
Proficiency in desktop publishing and other relevant software programs.

Ability to network and support effective partnerships with key groups and constituencies.
Ability to work cooperatively with others and demonstrates professional, ethical, respectful, and courteous behavior when interacting with others. Demonstrate pleasant and positive interactions with other to meet customer expectations, and provide follow up with customers. Reaches compromise and consensus to influence and negotiate. Remains calm and is able to manage conflict, and works well with a diverse workforce. Approachable style allows others to be open in sharing thoughts and ideas.
Travel: This position will include international and domestic travel up to about 30% of the time.
