The Podcast Producer leads podcast production, marketing and distribution from the News Office, working with University Communications and Schools, Divisions and other units across campus. The role is vital to growing podcasting at the University, with the Producer building content and audience for individual shows as well as the larger UChicago Podcast Network.
The role is vital in telling the story of one of the world's leading research universities, where rigorous inquiry shapes and defines fields, drives a transformative education and creates impact that improve lives in Chicago and around the globe. Podcasting is an emerging medium for the University that matches the thoughtful, in-depth and explanatory nature of the research, education and impact of UChicago.
The role includes producing podcasts that range from interviews and live programs to series that are narrative in their approach. The Producer will develop, record and edit podcasts as well as work to create new shows. At the same time, the role will lead efforts for podcast distribution and marketing. The role includes expertise on podcast distribution platforms and best practices for engaging with a range of audiences. The Producer will market podcasts online and across social platforms with a focus on building audiences for shows and further establishing the UChicago Podcast Network amongst the best in the business.
Set the vision to establish UChicago as the premier podcast producer within the higher education space.
Develop new series that support UChicago and key goals and initiatives.
Work with Nobel laureates, field defining researchers, and industry leading scholars to produce new and existing podcast series, including developing, recording and editing individual episodes.
Lead podcast distribution efforts across campus, developing and executing strategies to build audience for various series and the overall UChicago Podcast Network.
Lead podcast marketing across campus, including building audience for and drawing attention to UChicago podcasts.
Previous success developing popular podcast series.
Strong audio skills, including substantial experience in recording interviews, live events and telling narrative stories.
Expertise in audio editing skills and the ability to create podcast episodes that are engaging and compelling.
Ability to identify and tell engaging audio stories and develop interviews that draw in listeners.
A journalist's toolkit with experience researching new subject matters, prepping for discussions, and conducting meaningful interviews.
Strong creativity, including the desire to experiment and delve into new approaches.
Proven expertise in podcast distribution, including such platforms as Apple Podcasts, Stitcher and Spotify, with a proven track record of building audiences for podcast series.
Advanced marketing and social media skills, including a proven track record of growing listenership for podcasts.
Ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative, organization and attention to detail.
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, and meet deadlines required.
Education, Experience, or Certifications:
Bachelor's degree required.
At least three to five years of experience in the production, marketing and distribution of audio content, preferably in journalism or digital media, required.
