In partnership with the senior manager, external communications, this associate will be responsible for the development and execution of public relations initiatives and campaigns, identifying and optimizing earned media opportunities and ensuring timely development and execution of communication and marketing initiatives aimed at supporting the organization’s overall goals.
Essential Job Duties
Develop and deliver communications, marketing initiatives, and campaigns, in collaboration with the development (fundraising) team.
Create, edit and optimize marketing and communications collateral, ensuring the timely production and delivery of materials including: event invitations, programs and brochures, e-newsletters, video and web content, social media posts, and other materials as needed.
Support marketing and communication projects that amplify organizational news and increase awareness of our brand, our programs and original research – internally and externally.
Manage the production process for publications, reports and marketing materials - often with external vendors and within a well-defined budget.
Support the storytelling practice of the organization by interviewing sources, writing stories and determining integration points for internal and/or external use.
Develop creative, compelling content for fundraising appeals, video and photo integration.
Working with the senior manager, external communications and the PR agency, identify proactive earned media opportunities around early childhood education topics and issues.
Perform other job-related duties as requested.
Required Qualifications – Required qualifications to effectively perform the job. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered (Additional requirements may be designated by position.)
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, nonprofit management or related field.
One to four years of experience in communications, public affairs, marketing or non-profit fundraising
Exceptional communications skills and familiarity with copy editing
Exemplary organizational skills and keen attention to detail

Proven PR and media experience, preferably in the non-profit or education field.

Ability to organize complex tasks, prioritize multiple assignments, exercise independent judgment, and to remain flexible and adapt to changing needs and priorities.
Experience with newsletter development and copy editing with exceptional attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to write about complex subject matter in a clear, concise and compelling way – for multiple stakeholder audiences.
Understanding of early learning childhood development and non-profit fundraising a plus.
Knowledge of vendor/consulting management, salesforce and marketing cloud.

Work Environment – Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
General office conditions. Exposed to moderate noise levels.
Must be able to travel within Chicago, Illinois and out-of-state if necessary.
