Description: Emerson College, the nation's premier institution of higher learning devoted to the arts and communications in a liberal arts context, seeks a talented and highly motivated Writer/Content Producer to join its fast-paced, dynamic, and highly collaborative Communications office. Working closely with the Associate Director of News & Information, the Writer's primary responsibility will be to produce written content that reinforces Emerson's role as the global leader in arts and communication in higher education. The writer will research, draft, and edit materials that include, but are not limited to: news content for Emerson College Today; campus announcements; media statements; remarks; event listings; social media posts; newsletters; and website content. As a highly collaborative team player, the Writer will work with other content creators within Institutional Advancement and across the College to tell stories that advance Emerson's profile and strategic priorities. The successful candidate will be able to meet deadlines, manage projects, and adapt to changing priorities.
Campus Location: Boston Campus
Required Knowledge: Bachelors degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, Writing, or related experience, required. A creative thinker with excellent research, writing, copy-editing skills, and ability to generate original ideas and content. Highly organized with the ability to multitask. Professionalism while working interpersonally across a wide range of campus partners. Experience using content management systems such as Drupal and WordPress.
Preferred/Desirable Knowledge: Intellectual curiosity, ability, and willingness to pursue diverse perspectives on topics that span the arts, communications, and the liberal arts. Depth of knowledge of the higher education landscape. Strong understanding of best practices in digital content. Experience in journalism and social media. Demonstrated ability to write in a variety of tones and on a variety of subjects. Familiarity with a wide array of media platforms, audiences, and style.
Required Prior Work Experience: 5+ years experience in professional writing, preferably in a newsroom or higher education setting. Candidates will be asked to submit samples of professional writing. Proven ability to write under tight deadlines. Experience interviewing subjects for profiles and news stories.
