Conceives, researches, and writes stories for AU’s flagship publication,American magazine, and its online presence, including at least two features per issue and several anchor pages/departments. Participates in editorial planning, works closely with managing editor and art director on all aspects of the magazine, including planning photography, attending relevant shoots, writing headlines, captions, and pull-quotes. Helps edit the magazine at two crucial points in the production process: before it is sent to press and in bluelines. Serves as substantive editor for stories written by the editor, and assists with editing pieces written by freelancers. Assist in curating the magazine’s website and social media feeds. Completes other general tasks as needed to work toward the magazine’s success (for example, distributing the magazine on main campus).

Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent
5-8 years of relevant experience
At least five of professional communications-writing experience
Strong writing, copyediting and proofing skills and familiarity with social media and the web requirements
Proven communication skills with internal teams and clients
Excellent news judgment and diplomacy skills; ability to be comfortable in both academic and non-academic environments
Ability to write compelling and accurate content in a variety of styles for diverse audiences
Self-direction; attention to detail, and the ability to juggle competing priorities and deadlines
