Columbia Business School Human Resources is committed to supporting best practices for recruiting, onboarding, orientation and engagement for all staff. Reporting to the Senior Executive Director of Human Resources, the Director will serve as a strategic partner to faculty, senior administrators and department heads to support their talent management and employee relations needs. This candidate will create a thoughtful recruiting, onboarding and orientation strategy to attract and retain the highest quality diverse candidate pool and will provide support and guidance to new hires and managers to ensure success and engagement. The Director will outline a smooth, detailed onboarding plan working across School and University departments (i.e. Operations, CUIT) for the seamless transition for new staff.
The Director, working with the Business School HR group, will demonstrate the ability to interact comfortably with a wide range of School stakeholders and ensure everyone meets planning goals. This candidate will become a business partner with School managers and support employee relations within specified departments.
1.Partner with hiring managers and department heads; identify recruiting strategy for sourcing open positions at the Business School. Effectively place ads, screen applicants and manage interview process for qualified candidates; manage process from sourcing to selection. Effectively use social media, external ad placement and diversity outreach media sites. Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the School to ensure that selected candidates are the most qualified match for the roles.
2.Coordinate drafting the position descriptions for posting; identify required skills, Columbia or School access needs consistent with posting; confirm seat location and computer requirements to be included on the internal job specification before posting.
3.Manages hiring decisions and communications between HR, the candidates, the hiring managers and the search committee as appropriate. Serves as a member of search committees and provides strategic guidance as needed.
4.Provide weekly recruitment updates and metric reporting to the Senior Exec Director; identify outliers and communicate issues/concerns with hiring managers; suggest modifying position descriptions and job posting language; track vacancies and trends. Maintain knowledge of NYC area demographics and jobs reports through news sources, webinars and University affiliations.
5.Create smooth onboarding plan; work with hiring managers, HR, operations, FPO, CUIT and establish a week one agenda for each new hire identifying University, School and Department priorities. Establish a procedure for monthly follow up with new hires for engagement.
6.Proactively network with potential candidates to ensure pipeline of talent for future openings.
7.Proactively reviews recruiting processes and makes recommendations on improvement to recruitment and selection strategies and sourcing initiatives.
8.Provide training workshops to hiring managers as needed.
9.Manages employee relations area with selected department constituents.
10.Other related duties as assigned.
General Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. Minimum 5 years' experience working in a Human Resources or Talent Management role.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: Must have had specialized recruiting and onboarding experience working in a senior level HR management role that included employee relations; high level relationship management experience, seasoned ability to negotiate; ability to perform well on a team effort; demonstrated problem solving skills needed along with relevant experience highlighting the ability to resolve conflicts. This individual must have strong interpersonal skills and sound judgment, strict attention to detail and have proven ability to work independently as well as have a positive approach to working within a team across different departments. Must have knowledge of external ad placements and effective use of social media for recruiting. Having a marketing or sales background helpful. Must exercise confidentiality and sensitivity relating to salary, budget and personnel information. A confidentiality agreement will be required. Must be able to work evenings as appropriate.
